Nota d'usoSia further che farther sono forme comparative di far e come aggettivo o avverbio in riferimento alle distanze fisiche si possono usare entrambi, nonostante further sia più comune nell'inglese britannico: There is another garage a mile or two further on, c'è un altro garage uno o due miglia più avanti; Aberdeen is farther north than Dundee, Aberdeen è più a nord di Dundee. In contesti figurati o astratti, però, si può utilizzare solo further, per esempio quando, come aggettivo, si intende “aggiuntivo, ulteriore”: further information, ulteriori informazioni, further details, ulteriori dettagli, further education, istruzione postscolastica; o come avverbio nel senso di “inoltre”: Further, the report describes the need for improved safety precautions, inoltre il report parla della necessità di migliori precauzione sanitarie; o quando si tratta del verbo to further, che significa “promuovere, potenziare”: to further children's welfare, potenziare i servizi sociali per i bambini.
